Unique IDA-00445208SeriesLetters Received from the Colonial Secretary, 1842-1859Date26th October 1857FormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter from Colonial Secretary on the subject of Funds for the City Sewerage and Water Works advising City Council that: 1) Colonial Treasurer has prepared a Warrant for Payment of £10,000 on Account of the Sewerage Works; 2) the Balance payable by the Government for the Water Works is £63,413, but, as there appears by the City Council Statement to be a Sum of £4,649.9.1 at the Credit of the fund for these works, it is proposed to Defer Issue of a Warrant for further payment until money is actually required by the Corporation; 3) as payment of the sum of £63,413 will exhaust the amount to be provided by Government, should more money be required for Water Works the Corporation has the Power, under Section 73 of their Act of Incorporation, to Raise a further Loan of £130,000 for the purpose; 4) the Amount of Compensation for Land Resumed for Water Works is as much chargeable against the loan as any other portion of the Expenditure for this service - the amount of such Compensation was Excepted from Control of the Legislature as neither the Commissioners nor the Legislature could Regulate and Determine it.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
