Unique IDA-00445281SeriesLetters Received from the Colonial SecretaryDate28th April 1859FormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter from Colonial Secretary referring to the Application from City Council for Issue of £5,000, being the first moiety of the Annual Grant in aid of the City Fund for the present year, and advising that this application cannot be entertained at present on the following grounds: 1) the moiety cannot in strictness be regarded as available until 30th June next; 2) on 30th June next the Corporation will be indebted to the Government in a larger sum (say £5,450) for Interest on Sewerage Debentures; 3) the Corporation having ruled that Interest on Sewerage Debentures can only be repaid by them when the amount collected for Sewerage Rates admits of such payment, all moneys held by Government on account of the City Corporation, not exceeding the Sum due for Interest, should be withheld for the purpose of meeting such claims against the Corporation, in accordance with an opinion given by Crown Law Officers.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
